Laurinaitis hints at Steel Cage Match for this Friday?s SmackDown

Thursday afternoon on Twitter, Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, Interim Raw General Manager and WWE Board of Directors-appointed GM of tonight?s SmackDown, John Laurinaitis sent out the following tweet:

?@WWERawGM: A U.S. Title rematch between @milanmiracle and @RealJackSwagger would make #SmackDown REALLY special. And I've always loved steel cages ...?

The message has set off speculation that Laurinaitis plans on locking newly-crowned United States Champion Santino Marella inside a steel cage for his first defense, against the Superstar he defeated to capture the gold on Raw Monday night, Jack Swagger (WATCH). The All-American American, no doubt enraged after losing his title, is looking for retribution and a path back to the championship.

But why would Laurinaitis stack the deck in Swagger?s favor so obviously? Is he looking to get one up on SmackDown GM Theodore Long, who used his temporary powers as Raw?s leader Monday night to grant Marella, his assistant, a shot at Swagger?s title?

Or is this another case of Laurinaitis trying to get inside Long?s head as their struggle for control over both brands continues? (MORE WWE POWER STRUGGLES) At the conclusion of last week?s SmackDown, he hinted that he may put Teddy?s girlfriend, Aksana, in the ring across from the monstrous Kane (WATCH). He could be trying to break Long down by taking out those closest to him.
